Americans give more than $350 billion to charity. In addition to the religious and educational institutions at the center of American civil society, we rely on nonprofits to help the needy and discover cures for diseases. Yet nonprofits operate within a paradigm that prohibits them from using the free enterprise system to fully unlock their potential and effectively carry out their mission.
